This is Leland White. He's like an adopted younger brother that you don't tell people about. And though he's an experienced big game hunter, he's fairly new to turkey hunting. He has killed several gobblers, but for one reason or another never called one in to the gun by himself. That is, until this year. Using one of my box calls Leland had two JAKEs come in silently about three minutes after yelping on the long box. Having not much time available for hunting this year he went ahead and took this handsome Merriam's JAKE. Later, he actually called and killed a second JAKE near the end of the season, but was so embarrased that he wouldn't give me a picture of it. The good news is that he left several JAKEs for seed and if Leland stays out of the woods, they'll be long beards next year. You can bet he'll be putting the box to them next spring.
