This is Scott Klettke, a fireman with the Spokane Valley Fire
Dept. This is only his second year hunting turkeys, but be managed
to call in a very nice tom on opening day of the '05 Washinton
season.
Check out the story, it's a good one.
Scott and his friend, Jason Koziol of Moses Lake, were scouting
the day before the season in Eastern Washington near the Canadian
border. Very near. On the afternoon of that day the only bird
they heard was gobbling across the border.
On opening day the moring hunt didn't pan out so they returned
to the area in the late afternoon and took up a position within
view of the border fence. In the late afternoon the gobbler
began responding to the sound of the long box call. Within a
short time Scot had three irritated hens coming across the border
followed by the strutting tom. The old boy broke strut to go
under the fence, puffed back up and went beak to beak with the
jake decoy. Ooooh. Bad move.
Congratulations, Scott and Jason.
